D300 200-400mm w/ 1.7 TC F6.7 1/160 ISO 400

One of my favorite birds in S. Texas. Pretty common here but very active, hard to get to pose

Good depth of field Bob, he's sharp all the way through. A very good looking Jay. I'd perhaps have cropped so he has a bit more room infront, but that is minor here.

Interesting image. The larger image shows the bird better IMHO, specially the highlight in the eye. The colors and details are very good. Thanks for sharing.

Bob,

Some day I would love to photograph these Jays, they have such gorgeous colors.

I like how the head is turned towards you, the light in the eye and the nice light on the body.

There is a visible straight line in the background on the left side of the frame a bit below the tail where it looks like a strip of canvas was added, using the healing brush or clone tool with a soft edge there should eliminate the straight line.

Nice dof.

Bob, nice shot. Love the colors on this bird. I also like the pose. I see the line Mia mentioned. For my taste, the bright areas of the rock are just a bit too contrasty to the nice green BG. Also, all the sunflower seeds in the image detract a bit for me, takes the wildness away. Of course that is just me.

The detail in the jay is excellent, I'm not that excited about the feeder perch and I'd like a little more room on the right. I loved the oriole by the way. :toast:

Lovely capture, although, as Nate says, the feeder is a bit of a distraction. I might selectively darken the top center part of the feeder a bit so it is less distracting. Special props for nailing the vividness of the colors.

Nice shot of a very pretty bird. Everything looks great except I wish his head was up instead of looking down. But that's a pretty minor criticism. I love the green and blue colors of this bird.

Bob:
I agree with your assessment of Green Jays as subjects. On my two photo trips to south Texas, the jays were everywhere, but seemed to always be partially obscured and/or in deep shadow, or a mix of deep shadow and bright sun. This is much, much better than any shot I have. I really like the rich range of greens and blues, the head angle and catch light in your image.
