Melvin,

I like the erect pose of the grouseand what appears to be nice details in its plumage. For me the issues in the image are that it is a touch dark, I think you could lighten it some without causing too much noise. The other issue I can see is I'd like to see more room in front of the grouse and a little less behind it which might also minimize the bright spots on the left side of the frame. It is wonderful that given the conditions you were able to get a catchlight too.

I agree with Mia's critique of this shot. Nice habitat, but just a tad dark.

Nice shot of this bird. I like the perching on the branch pose. I usually see grouse on the ground. I agree with the previous critiques and will add that I think the picture is too blue. I would try to warm it up a little by adding some yellow and red.

I have cropped and brightened the picture.

I think the brightness of the repost is an improvement Melvin, I would have left more room on top as it's head is quite close to the top now. Always nice to get a grouse up in a tree. :toast:

Good capture of a sometimes-difficult bird. I prefer the comp in the original post and the light in the re-post. In the re-post, I might try some selective noise reduction on the background. My experience is that these guys like the shade, which adds a challenge...
