Black Sand Basin

This photo of Yellowstone's Black Sand Basin was taken the beginning of February. By the time we arrived by snow coach the light was awful. I wanted to get some shots of the basin so I went for a backlit shot that turned out primarily black and white, so I processed it that way. Not sure if it works or not.

Interesting image, Tamara. I like the b&w. The trees against that steam is marvelous.

This almost feels post-apocalyptic. Certainly an interesting and worthy way of seeing and presenting a nature photograph.

Tamara,

This turned out quite dramatically and I think works very well; especially considering the rising steam and the silhouettes. I think this works very well.

On a side note, the guard rails of the trail/path should put this in Man & Nature, but are really a small part of the composition. Please keep in mind for next time... thanks!

Hi Tamara! I think this works very well. The rising steam and stark contrasts make this image very dramatic. Nice capture!

Sorry Lon, I didn't even notice the guard rails. I guess I was concentrating on other things.
