Sunset in Valsavarenche

Hi everyone,
I've found this picture this morning while digging in my archives in search of overlooked pics, for an upcoming and totally due update of my website.
I took this last year at the end of April in Valsavarenche, one of the many valleys in the Gran Paradiso National Park. I remember that I initially discarded this pic because I was not totally happy with the composition, with all that empty space in the fg-- But now, working carefully with local contrast enhancement I have been able to let all the subtle nuances of color and light to stand out, and I think it might work now. I'd really love to hear what you folks think about that, thanks in advance for your time.

Details: Eos 50D, Tokina ATX-Pro 12-24 f4, GND 8x, tripod. 25" f11

Love the colors in the sky and the light on the mountain peak. Love the line in the snow and the subtl nuances of light and color in the foreground.

This is a sweet shot Paolo! I actually think that the lower half is the most beautiful part of the image - the light on the snow and all the lines and forms look excellent.

Pauklo, this is lovely - dramatic mountains and clouds, great sunset color and reflection in the snow, and nice foreground detail and interest.
A winner, for me!

Yeah, I do think the same way, Didl, now that I have re-processed it. What a shame that I didn't concentrate more on the fg then...

Wow, superb shot Paolo. The blank FG doesn't bother me at all, in fact, I enjoy it. Beautiful sky too.

Hey Paolo! Well, this really works for me. The diagonal at the base is subtle but makes a wonderful job in giving stability to the image and interest to the foreground...It works for me!

I think the line at the bottom is ok but I also think it looks good cropped out to. Beautiful colors and lovely movement in the sky. Nice work.

Looks real good, Paulo. Foreground certainly works with the rest of the scene.

Paolo,

This is gorgeous! I like the processing work you have done with the foreground - it it works nicely, but honestly, I think you could simply the whole thing and crop that area out all together. It's not a distraction per se, but really the image is about the mountain, the light and the terrific sky. In the end, as presented this is still a beautiful winter mountain landscape. What's to complain about this? :-)

Beautiful color and drama in the sky and the lines/forms of the snow in the foreground with just a hint of color really is gorgeous. Outstanding work.

Epic mountain view Paolo. I'm not the biggest fan of the blurred clouds (unless there is a compositional/directional aspect to them), but here I find it a little gimmicky. I like it a little more with a slight crop off the bottom, removing that bottom layer - the scene becomes a little more cohesive for me then.

I would maybe consider a 4x5 crop, but that aside, excellent light and excellent image!

Great light and great colors Paolo. What a great mountain sceen. I am a little uneasy about the blurred clouds as well. Must have had to use a slow shutter? It just does not mix with the sharp mountain for me.
