This isn't one of my favorite photos, but it is definately one of my favorite birds.

Rallids as a group are my favorite birds, and this species is certainly one of the most spectacular. Taken at Esteros del Ibera in Argentina, the 2nd largest wetland area in South America (This place is awesome!) I thought about a shallower DOF, but I wanted it to keep a tiny bit of detail in the aquatic vegetation in the BG, so it is clear that this guy is creeping out of the water, and not on a lawn (where they're commonly seen!)

Thank you for your comments and critiques.

What a cool bird! Nice catch light and DOF, certainly can tell it's not on someone's lawn. Thanks for posting such an unusual bird, at least from my experience. :toast:

Neat look at the eye and head of this species Matt, brings back memories of seeing and photographing this bird at the Estero myself, thanks. :toast:

Impressive bird Matt - nice and sharp. i'd be tempted to give it a little more room if you have any.

An awesome species Matt. I would use a touch more unsharp mask on him I think.
