Hi all,
This is my first(and not the last one)post in Fauna gallery as a member. A shot that I took on my trip to Monterey Bay last year. It's not the best quality picture that I got of these amazing otters, but it's by far the most interesting one. This guy brought up a huge sea cucumber and was struggling with it for a minute before giving up. Looked like he was playing some exotic instrument

5 commentsWelcome to the NPN Fauna Gallery - I hope this is only the first of many contributions (images and comments!) you can share with us.
I find this an interesting behavioural shot of a fascinating species (or two species, I suppose!). In a perfect world it would be nice to have a little closer view (either through moving in tighter or via seeing a larger version of the image) and perhaps a little lower point-of-view, but I have no idea if either of these options was available to you. Regardless, you've nicely documented the behaviour in a humourous way (and it DOES look like the otter has dragged up some form of musical instrument from the deep!).
Cheers...thanks for sharing this and hope to see you back soon...
Brad
PS: Please don't hesitate to jump in and comment on the images of others. I know many members are a little hesitant to do so, but ultimately the success of all the galleries are determined largely by the comments members leave on the images that are posted. If you're unsure or uneasy about commenting/"critiquing" there are several good resources on this website discussing it. Start right here:

and you'll find links to the the image posting guidelines and two articles on critiquing ("The Art of Image Critique" and "More Thoughts on Photo Critique.").
