This is a very healthy tiger in its prime. I like how you have captured it gait with lovely side lighting and from a low angle. Using a 300mm lens and assuming not trimming, it must not be very far from you! The face looks a bit dark on my screen and may benefit from slight brightening. People might love him but I think I will keep my distance. Good capture and well done.

nice side-lighting and a beautiful cat.
Seems a little dark overall, to me.

There are many things which are adding up to this image in a positive manner like the curious eyes, open jaw, raised paw, the fallen sal leaves, the frame trees are making etc. etc. I feel this is a very strong image, but the effect is not coming out... opening up the middle tones may help this.

IMHO this is a powerful image of a tiger. You have managed to keep detail through out. The expression on his face and the one paw in the air gives the impression that this guy knows what he is doing. Thanks for sharing, I wouldn't change anything.

Love the sidelighting, and I like it a bit darker, it makes the scene that much more dramatic. :toast:

Thank you Friends for your honest views.

Gary .. Sandy and Jagdeep - I know this light setting is very tricky and it may show differently on different monitors depending on the monitors' Gamma . On my calibrated screen I am seeing the face at good brightness but as you all are feeling it dark I will check my calibration again and see if my gamma is higher than normal .. Then I have to reprocess it to open up the shadows more :)

Thanks again and I am happy that you all liked the feel and setting of this image like I did

Very nice capture. The extreme sidelighting does weaken this some, although you did a good job with it. I might pull up the shadows a bit to reduce the overall contrast.

A tiger walking towards the photographer always makes for a great image, and this one is no different. The tiger is sharp overall, and the oof trees make a great frame. :toast:

Hi Subharghya,

I like the dramatic, high contrast look of this image - it's almost like the beautiful tiger is heading into a tunnel. I've read the comments about lightening up the shadow regions and I'm not sure I agree - if you do decide to go lighter I would caution you against lightening it up too much as it could easily remove the drama that's here. When I look at the larger version there's sufficient detail in the face and other shaded regions to please me just fine as is! My only real wish for this shot is that you had angled your camera down slightly and raised the cat a little more in the frame and given it more room in front of it (in the foreground) for it to move into (instead of having quite so much space above it). Overall, tho', I quite like this shot as posted.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

Dear Brad

Thank you so much for taking time to write your views in such detail :) I completely understand your taste for more space at the bottom than top .. Actually this is slightly cropped from the original frame and I have intentionally cropped more from bottom and kept so much space on top to emphasize the tallness of the tree trunks which forms a kind of gateway for the tiger. This is the beauty of creative perspectives .. each one has it's own thought process and I really respect your point of view :)

Thanks again friend :toast:

Looks great on my calibrated monitor Subharghya; plenty detail in the face and the dark look of the image creates the mood that makes this so attractive, well done! :toast:

Who could look at this and not be swept away by the drama of an approaching tiger in moody light!? Nice. I find it looks much brighter in the larger size without the dark panels on each side, something to keep in mind when applying a mat/frame. Nice work.

Ahh, lovely Subharghya. Superb use of light here, I truly think that you have an amazing collection of tiger images among all that I see from India. Images like these need to be seen on a calibrated monitor or would look dark at certain areas. I just saw it perfect in my calibrated mac. This image is working just perfect for my eyes and I think opening up would spoil the mood. The only thing I can suggest is to take off the name from the image :). Cheers. :toast: :toast:

Beautiful shot....the 40D certainly handles contrasting lights/darks well. Of course, the intensity (and rarity) of the species takes it to the next level.

Hello Subharghya, I looked at this shot several times and every time i had a different feeling. These are, at the end, are my thoughts: it could gain strength if more room could be added to the right(the same size of the leftmost tree) and to the bottom(double the foliage area at the feet of the tree on the left). Nothing to say, about the other topics,on my calibrated monitor it looks fantastic.
Cheers.

Great picture. The light is very nice but for my personal taste I would like just a little more detail in the shadows. I also think a little more room in front and a little less at top would improve the comp.
