Gallery: 10 Years of NPNPosted April 10, 2010365 views9 comments
Returning home from a mediocre day of shooting in the Navajo Nation, I spotted a most graceful cedar tree out of the corner of my eye just a hundred yards from the highway. When I walked over to it my heart skipped a beat. Not only did it frame Setting Hen Butte well, but the patch of snow and the clouds were the cherry on the cake.
Fortunately, I had recently printed out the NPN Hyperfocal Chart to help me achieve maximum depth of field.
This image won Best of Show in a photography exhibit in Durango, Colorado.

I wasted several years at other photography forums before I was turned on to this place by CAZ from RMNP, whom I met deep in a Utah canyon. I've learned so much and have been so inspired by the superb photographers here! This gallery represents the best of that group.
Thank you all for everything!!

I really like the way you framed this, and I think the clouds helped a lt too.

I am constantly on the lookout for scenes such as this which include a prominent picturesque cedar or piñon or juniper or bristlecone in the foreground. This is very appealing. The depth of field looks great. However John, overall this looks quite unexpectedly soft from front to back on my monitors.

Wood, Ice, stone, and sky. I get to see this because you were able to 'see' it.
