Ring-Necked Pheasant

Was out driving around when my buddy spotted this male ring-necked right outside my door. It was the first one I've seen, so I just quickly picked up the camera and got off a few shots. This is not nearly as crisp as I thought it would be, nor as this gallery deserves, but wanted some opins/advice. Anyway, D60 ISO-320, 1/500th, f 5.6 at 200mm, Nikkor 55-200. Thanks for looking! The local property owner said there are at least 3 hanging around and gave me permission to come back.

Nice to get one in the open like this Bill, it looks to me like the grass directly in front of the bird looks a little sharper than the bird itself so I'm wondering if you missed your focus point. :toast:

Yes, Rich! The pheasants, mallards, GBH there last year too. Nice property owner helps.

And Nate, I'm sure you are exactly correct about the focus point. For fear of scaring off this beautiful bird, I contorted to take the first few shots out of the truck window, so I would get something. Got out and got some others, but I believe this to be the best of the lot. Very disappointed it wasn't as sharp as I wanted. My friend has a 5D and 400mm. Looking forward to his shots from the day. Thanks! :toast:

A great feel to this image Bill. Love the lush greens and the rolling hills. Agree about the bird being a bit less than tack sharp, but still an interesting image.

You got this guy out in the open. That in itself is an accomplishment. Beautiful colours. I hear these birds often but rarely see them and when I do they are running for cover.
