Ruby-crowned Kinglet

by Hans Spiecker

This morning in light overcast conditions I found this small, excited Ruby-crowned Kinglet near my home in Glenview, IL. Normally the ruby crown is not visible so I thought this was a good and somewhat unusual photo to share with you all.

Thanks for looking and for your comments and suggestions.

As uncluttered as I've seen for this species. Nice seeing the crown.

Great shot. Too bad the tail is slightly oof. I might be tempted to clone out the budding leaf. My eye seems to zero in right to it.

Like the soft light and the clean background. Maybe just a little more space on the bottom.

Wow, great image, Hans. Great comp, color and detail, but your shots usually have that. To capture the crown so well though is amazing all by itself and then to have such a smooth bg takes this over the top. :toast:
