This is a real beauty John!! I love the placement of the prickly pear too, and the dramatic sky puts it over the top. Great image.

John,
What a great wildflower landscape. I really like the inclusion of the cacti - it really provides context for the location and more importantly, it's almost one of a kind! Great color and use of the wide angle.

John, this is one heck of a nice image.
I love the warm soft tones.
It reminds me of that scene in the Wizard of Oz, when the encounter the entire landscape of flowers.
Nice work.

Awesome shot, John. What a huge amount of flowers. For the sake of color contrast, I might want to put a hint of blue in the sky overall.

The clarity in the FG is outstanding as is the composition. I agree with Andrea's suggestion of adding a touch of blue in the sky. I thought the same thing too before I read his comment. If it were mine I consider cloning out the contrails in the sky and coming down a bit from the top as well. I hope this helps.

John, love all the colors and these go very well together. Are those cow patties on the ground? Probably make pretty good fertilizer if they are. I also like the subdued sky instead of the blue we mostly see in these images. Nice work.

Very pretty, love the angle of view and the blossoms are bold and beautiful. I like it with about a 1/4 crop from the top as well. Nice way to pass the time, while waiting out a storm.

Oh yeah! Stunning! I dream of one day seeing something like this. I love the DOF in this and the detail all the way through. Lovely! My only nit is that I'd like to see that back hill just a tad lighter, but that's really getting nit picky.

Oh my what a beautiful display of flowers! I love the cactus right in the middle to remind us that this is in fact the desert in bloom! Looks like there's a bit of a magenta cast?

Michael, thanks for the suggestions. Those are actual clouds, not contrails. (Darn our modern era, I too dislike clouds that look like contrails.) I had to smile, because I returned the following morning to this area, and there were three jets dogfighting overhead. This is a rural part of Arizona, and they do that now and again. Awesome to watch, but they add a lot of noise to a peaceful scene.
Dean, those are volcanic rocks, typical in this area.
Floris, probably. I ramped up the mag/grn a little in lab, maybe too much.
Good eye Dorin. Those shadows are subtle, but the light really added to the scene as the clouds thinned a little. The poppies were just starting to open a bit.

Very nice, I was surprised and pleased to see the cactus pop up as I opened the image since I hadn't noticed it in the thumb nail. I love the close flowers in the foreground.

John,
Ditto all comments, and I agree the linear clouds are not contrails, first of all the altitude is really low for contrail formation and I can't recall ever seeing tapering contrails. Composition, technique and processing are spot on, but what a great find and with a dramatic sky to.

Bob, it was from this year (just a couple of weeks ago).
Anthony, it was overcast, but the clouds were thinning a bit as the storm moved out. At the bottom of the photo you can see weak shadows from the flowers.
Thanks all!

Hi John,
just wondering if you have used the technique from your article as I am still struggling a little bit with blending the images for DOF. Mainly with that part how to take the images for that type of blend :-).
Anyway this image is wonderful.

Pavel, I did pretty much exactly follow the technique I described in the NPN Magazine article. Since your comment about taking the photos to blend is a technique point for DOF blending in general, I posted some thoughts in the Landscape Forum.

Wow those colors are incredible. Or more specifically, the color combinations here are incredible. I love scenes like this where the colors combine to make an almost otherworldly color. The sky seems to have a slight magenta tint which could use correction, but maybe that's how it was.
