Rainbow Falls, HI

This is a big tourist attraction on the Big Island of Hawaii, mainly because you can drive right up to it like a good tourist! I was there on a fairly cloudy day - used a VARI-ND to smooth the waterfall. This is a blend of 3 exposures, primarily to save blown highlights in the sky and waterfalls, also to recover some detail from dark areas...
Canon 40D, f16, 3 exposures from 2 to 10 sec.

Quite a nice view! You managed the processing of the highlights and shadows very well. Although, I'm not sure the sky is even necessary to include in this photo. I'd be tempted to crop it all off to put more emphasis on the falls. Maybe also include a very tiny crop off the bottom too.

Daniel, this looks like a spectacular place. I've been to Kauai and Maui both several times. Big Island, I hope, to see next April. These kinds of shots are much more difficult to make then they appear. My only alteration would be to get the WB so the balance of the scene is less dingy, and maybe a hint more blue.

Nice work.

A nicely arranged composition Daniel. Very balanced.

Lovely scene Daniel. Framing the falls with as much of the vegetation as possible is a great touch. Like Matt, I also find the image a little "dingy" nothing that can't be quickly and slightly altered in PS.

Beautiful scene and nicely composed with the waterfalls framed by the green vegetation.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I didn't realize it was such a 'dingy' picture, but looking at it now it does look kinda drab - I have a print I made, and I think I must have boosted the contrast and saturation before printing it, because it looks better than on the computer screen. The cropping suggestions are useful feedback as well, thanks!

Beautiful scene and your blending technique looks good. I do agree about cropping out the sky. It is a mild distraction from the rich green vegetation.

I think the light is balanced very well and a small boost in contrast as suggested would make this wonderful. I like the comp as is and this is a beautiful shot of an equally beautfiul waterfall.

Daniel, Nice image nice location. The only thing I might do would be crop out the sky. :toast:
