Shelving Rock Falls

Visited one of my favorite local waterfalls last week and found a nice vertical composition from a spot I had not tried before. Got home and found that water spots on the UV filter had ruined the shot (4 exposures for blending). This is a single test shot to check exposure and shutter speed for water motion, but it’s just the top half of what I wanted. I double-processed in ACR and hand-blended to handle the high dynamic range.

Canon 50D
Sigma 17-70mm. f/2.8
0.4 sec. @ f/16; ISO 100
Tripod; Mirror up w/2-sec. timer

The exposure and shutter speed seem spot on to me. I notice a bit of color fringing near the high contrast area around the tree in the upper left. I like how the nice curvature the falls has from top to bottom through the frame

This is on my list of must go to places this year, and this exposure has inspired me. The lighting and water look good to my eye. I see lots of different shots here.

Turned into a beauty! I like the comp with the hint of the origin in the ulc. Nice work.

Looks as good as a stitcth, Wayne. The comp is really well organized with a strong focal point in the falls, but the details in the rock keep the eye moving.

A lot to look at with the falls center stage. Exposure looks spot on and the comp well organized. Nice job.

Wow! That's a great shot, and even better given that it was a test shot. I'd like to see what a polarizer would have done to take some of the glare off the rocks, especially in the FG.
