While photographing the fern in my previous post, I noticed this bit of Skunk Cabbage that was lit nicely by the sun and went for a bit of an abstract.

Nikon D300s 105mm f/2.8 VR HH from boardwalk
f/7.1
1/125s
ISO 500
-.33 EC

Slight Sharpen, minor curves adjustment, Full Frame

Luke, I really like the comp, color, and the patterns created by the leaf veins. I'm not sure about the reflections; still thinking about it. I do wonder what a polarizer would have done, if using one was possible.

Phillip,

I feel the same way about the reflections... didn't really notice them at the time. I'm very new to the macro game.. maybe one of those 12" reflector disks would have blocked it?

great eye to find this. Nice subject. Nice use of dof. Nice comp. A polarizer would have been nice, but it's still a keeper. :toast:

Luke: Nice find and comp. You would be surprised how useful a polarizer can be for macro work. Of course the big drawback is light loss and if you're shooting anything in a breeze even the slightest movement at macro distances is magnified. I do keep one in my vest pocket for both my 100 and 200 macros. Overall I think this is a successful shot and especially impressive in the larger version. >=))>
