Shot in my natural light box studio. Canon40D 90mmT/S 3.2 sec @ f32

Was really attrected to the fabulous colour and structural qualities of the Iris. The early morning light also helped!!

This is my first post after lurking and learning for the past few months. All comments and critiques are most welcome as i crawl along this wonderful learning journey. :wavey:

Great first post Bob. Exquiste bearded iris specimen presented well with a lot of detail and the background really makes it stand out. Well done! Find myself wondering whether a horizontal flip might improve the flow? :wavey:

Welcome to NPN Bob, and coming in out of the "blue". Intriqued with your "natural light box studio"? Care to "illuminate" me on what your "studio" is? I know what you mean about succumbing to the charms of an Iris. I have become enamored with the beardless ones this past late winter and early spring. Have several cultivars of bearded ones growing in our flowerbeds, and it looks like we will be blessed with hatches of blooms this coming spring. I like the dark (black ?) bg as it makes the subject "pop" and the detail stand out. Not sure if you captured this subject at an angle or tilted your camera to give it a diagonal presentation, but the tilt of the stem adds to the composition Bob. I like the glow in the center of the blossom and the lighting in general. You are setting your bar high for yourself with this as a first post. If you are crawling it won't be long before you are walking!

This is superbly lit up and well presented. You've worked that box before. I like the colors and delicate paper-like texture shown. Ken S

Really stunning capture against the dark BG. I think this would look really nice as a large matted print.

Bob: Welcome to the finest Flora gallery on the planet and from the looks of this the lurking paid off. Marvelous lighting for sure. Reminds me of Pat Sampson's work and I hope you will take that as a high compliment. Looks like you got right to the edge on the highlights but still kept them on the histogram. Great to have you aboard and looking forward to more.>=))>

hI Bob :wavey: Welcome to flora :jump: This is a great first post  The Comp. detail, and color are splendid... On your next post i would cut out the light just a bit. Or try bracketing the exposure to remove the tiny highlights.on the upper petals.

Excellent comp, light, color and backgrund. Welcome to the forum! Really a great first post. The only tiny nit would be to reign in the very brightest highlights just a touch.
