New Blooms

This was taken a couple weeks ago at the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden in Federal Way, WA. For those of you in the local area, this is really a hidden gem of a Garden just crammed with floral goodness. It's well worth the modest entry fee, especially during these months of Spring. There are Rhodies from around the world, azaleas, lots of other Spring wildflowers, several areas dedicated to ferns, lots of tree specimens such as magnolia, maple, and … Oh, just go!

I added a color fill background and blended the transparency. I suppose that technically it's photo art… The bg was unavoidably messy, but I just loved the grouping of flowers, newly blooming in their fresh white frills and still with a blush on them.

Thanks for looking and for your comments. And now I'm off to catch up with what look like some terrific posts. You've all been busy!

Photo art or flora Catherine it is still a beuatiful presentation. The bg pattern compliment the branching of the Rhododendron plant. Not sure about the bg color, but the more I look at the presentation the more it grows on me. :toast:

Beautiful composition of colors, I like this very much, and I also think the BG fits very well.
Beautifully presented Catherine.

Catherine the flowers are beautiful. No problem with the background. Would lighten the one branch at about 1:00 just a smidgen.
At first the stems were intriguing. They made me think of walking sticks; now I'm wondering what would happen if they too were lightened a bit. I think that would make the focus be on the actual flowers even more.
That clump of blooms on the right would make a great design for Keds. Go for it!

A very zen like image, Catherine. I love the BG; it compliments the blooms beautifully. I am glad you posted this here instead of photo art.

It's art. I'm glad you posted it here instead of PA. I probably would have missed it, cause I don't venture over there as much as I should. :toast: :toast:

Catherine: I really like what you did with the BG but the stars of the show are the blossoms. Really good comp and DOF choice. 2 thumbs up! >=))>

Hi Catherine, sounds like a great place to visit. Would be quite a trip though from Virgina. The image itself is sweet. I like the oriental flare. Well captured and presented.

As others have said great oriental feel to the shot which I like. Rhodies are tough to capture well and you have done a great job here. The only nit of a suggestion to to lighten the upper left groups. They pull the eye too much for me.
