D90 18-200mm @ 75mm 1/45 F22 ISO 200

One of the earliest bloomers in my garden, this is an old time member of the lily family often seen in old masters' still life paintings

I really like this image. The intense satuaration of the green and red remind of Christmas. Very nice composition. Assume if the "Old Masters" used it, that it's a European import. Is the stem square? Thanks for posting this.

I'm not familiar with this flower, but it's very interesting.and cool. I might be tempted to go a bit darker with this. I just tipped my monitor screen, and darker looks really sweet. Nice work. What did you use for your background?

Really nice complimentary colors working here, not to mention the gorgeous details and symmetrical composition that brings a nice formality to the scene. Great shot all around!

I really unqiue looking flower, and the lighting really highlites it. I agree about going to a black bkgd.

Bob: A new flower to me and I've seen a bunch here over the years. I can see the suggestion about going black with the BG but this works very nicely for me as is. Really good lighting. Great capture of a unique and fascinating subject. >=))>

And you made it every bit as beautiful as an old master's painting. Great light and color and the background is wonderful.

that is a very cool plant! Love the way you portrayed it here, too, with the clean dark bg. Even with the apparently bright light, the flower shows off so well. I've never seen one and am excited that you posted the image.
