Short Brush

My wife and I recently volunteered to do some work with Defenders of Wildlife at a local nature preserve, removing old barbed-wire fencing left behind from the days of ranching in the area. As I grumpily pulled into the parking lot at 8AM after driving for an hour (complaining the whole time under my breath about missing morning photo ops for free labor), I was greeted by a wonderful half-tailed fox that taught me a lesson about "doing the right thing" by giving me about 400 photos for my efforts.

You sure got this one in a nice zone of light! I like the detail of the well illuminated eye and the exposure looks "right on" to emphasize the fox. Given the potential distraction of those background weed stalks, I think you did a great job choosing the right f-stop to keep the fox in focal zone while letting the background go soft. By only suggestion would have been to seek a lower perspective closer to the subject's eye level, if at all possible during the shooting sequence.
