I shot this way back in 2003 using my first digital camera... the original Canon 1DS. I decided to dig thru the archives and rework this image using more mature post processing skills.

I'm not crazy about the straight forward comp, but I do like the way the image plays with my mind, as I try to figure out what is near and far.

Canon 1DS/16-35 at 16mm. TK's luminosity and saturation masks.

That is a cool effect. Great reds too, good idea to rework.

Straight forward comp? I still haven't put all the parts together yet, but do like the shapes and patterns. I like the scene and the light but feel the saturation and tint are a bit off. It feels a bit too magenta and a bit too saturated to me, though I'm more than happy to allow for a lot of personal interpretation with this subject matter.

I love it! The light color and detail in this are just wild. I like the comp too. Really good!

Near/far, positive/negative ... what a mind trip. Glad you dug it up, for sure. I really appreciate this image for those qualities - far more interesting that the typical slot image.

Colorful with good details in the both lights and darks. Nice optical illusion, too. I like it.

Yes, it plays with my mind, sort of like an Escher.

I like the shapes and the processing is inspiring.

Keep digging and processing...

You are not crazy about this image? Well you can just hand it over then! In all seriousness this is great for the simple fact of what you mention.... the mind games it plays. I love when folks find comps where nature forces us to figure these puzzles out.

Quite the mind bender, Jimmy. I love the light and colors but as you say the most interesting part is trying to make sense of the perspective.

Jimmy,

Sweet! I think the tones and saturation are just right - not overboard and that glow of the reflected light is what really helps define the image and also makes the formations so tough to figure out. Tony may be right about the magenta though, now that I think about it. But I still think it looks great.
