It was early September and this bull had been rubbing on the pine tree that he is standing under. The pine tar is all over his antlers and in his neck hairs. Yellowstone on the Madison.

1/250
ISO 160
FL 180

Thanks for looking at my pictures and for any comment.

Jack first let me say I would be quite happy with this bull! He is a superb specimen and you have the antlers posed just right to show off the quality with good separation between all the tines to emphasize shape, length and mass. I like the looking back pose as well. Now, how could it be better? Hmmm. The most significant thing to my eye (and this depended on the bull's cooperation, of course) is leg position. As taken, the illusion is that he has only two legs. Some separation showing four legs would be more dynamic, especially if angled to imply walking. I also like the overhanging branches to give a sense of environment, but I am intrigued by the line of vegetation at the top of the frame. It appears that if you had a lower perspective you might have had the color zones of the grasses become soft horizontal lines with that darker green one as an accent. That could have been nice in terms of adding background interest to the composition and is something to think about next time!

Sharpness, head turn are very eye pleasing. Am glad the horns didn't cut across the grassy horizon line. :toast:

That is quite a bull! Nice capture Bill. I like the pine branches across the top also.
