A view from the top of the dunes at Inverness Beach, Cape Breton Island, NS.

With a stiff wind blowing off the ocean to my back, this warm light and the sound of the rustling grass more then made up for the bone chilly cold and numb fingers.

Thanks for having a look. Appreciate your comments on my previous posts.

A wonderful view Eva! Some intense colours in the sky, but absolutely believable and natural looking. The land below offers some appealing lines and details. I also like that the saturation level is not overdone there to give prominence to the sky, while it all looks balanced and natural. Very good work!

Beautiful shot overall. I love the capture of two levels of clouds - gives a cool 3D appearance.

Hi Eva,

The sky is amazing. It does look like it has a little bit of noise/sharpening artifacts on my monitor. Incredible capture and very peaceful :wavey:

Excellent I like several things in this photo. First of all how the stream leads into the colorful clouds, a pleasand travel thru the picture. Then I like the elevated point of view, it does offer a nice sensation of being there. Finally I like the ondulated horizon it gives a great transition from the ground to the sky.
Summarizing, a great shot!

Hi Eva,
the colors do look fantastic and I see you have given me another toy to look at(reverse grad ND)....I would be tempted to lighten the MG range a touch...as that is where the grad probably was.....just to balance out the FG flow even more. Very nicely composed!!!

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Michael - I always find it difficult to properly sharpen images with a lot of detail (grass, sand, etc.). I see the noise you are talking about in the posted version which is more exaggerated than the original. I did not use Define this time but will and will repost. Thanks for the input.

Roman - The darker mid ground is shadowed due to the sun still being below the horizon (dead center where you see a pin hole of light bleeding through). Thanks for the input.

Eva,

What a fantastic sky and sunrise. The color/saturation looks spot on to me on my monitor. My only nit would be the uneven lighting as a result of the grad. I understand what you mean about the shadow that would be coming from the distant mountain, but IMHO, the distance between you and that hill, the extremely low angle, etc. I believe the light values throughout the landscape would naturally be less gradual than I think shown here. But then again, there's that personal choice thing again...

A glorious view none the less and I also like the presence of the water to mix up and add interest to the landscape.

Previously you posted an image from the back door of your cabin.... is this looking out the front door?

Great job Eva and a wonderful sunrise. I do see a smudge or raindrop towards the bottom middle but hard to tell. I too wouldn't mind seeing this a little softer as I don't think you would lose detail either. Really a striking photo and I think Didl nailed it on the head as far as the natural appeal of this one.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks Lon and Anthony.

Lon this is out the front door and less than a 1/4 mile trek to the dunes. OK maybe I am dillusional about the absence of the grad line. Roman mentioned it too. I'll have another look but will definately let ya know when I go back to my favorite place this coming October.

Anthony - I missed that water spot. Yes it was raining on and off that morning (almost every morning I was there). I hate when that happens.

This is a really nice scene. I would love to be walking along that river. Fantastic sky to look at too.

I really like this Eva. The higher viewpoint feels like a nice change of perspective from some of your other images. Middle ground feels a bit dark, but probably from the grad.

Beautiful capture Eva, love the soft light on the hills/river and the great color in the sky. Looks like the grad line is pretty noticeable?

It just isn't the same without a little suffering involved. Numb fingers, and a runny nose are fair trades for an image like this if you ask me! This is your view from the front porch huh? Well I'm jealous of that, but in a nice way to be sure. Nothing to nit about there, just a beautiful scene, captured very nice.

Noise reduced, lightened mid ground, tried to clean up rain drop on lens.
Thanks again.

Thanks Chris. This is where I choose to vacation every October. We rent a cabin on top of the cliff overlooking Inverness Beach. Been coming here for 5 years now. Brutal weather but with light like this I can not resist. This view is out the front door of the cabin and then a 1/4 mile trek to the dunes. So not a big deal. Also sunrise here (Atlantic time), this time of year is around 7-ish so not a big deal to make sure I am up and out for it. Sunsets are on the beach side so I can sit on the back porch or trek down to the beach which I usually do since I love Inverness Beach, NS. Enough time too to make the Celtic Colour concerts which occur all over Cape Breton Island this week we visit.
