Sitting Pretty, w/repost

In a departure from BOAS, I thought I would post a photo of this female Baltimore Oriole sitting in a Honeysuckle bush I took last week in the "Magic Hedge" at Montrose Sanctuary, Chicago. I hope you enjoy it as well.

I am not sure why but the posted image is much less vivid in colors than the saved image on my computer.

Thanks for looking and for your comments and suggestions.

Great setting here Hans, it feels a little tight on the bottom to me, if you have the pixels (more on the top and bottom) a vertical crop might work well here. Are you saving the image in srgb color profile? :toast:

Thanks Nate, good suggestions. Here is a "start over" in vertical crop. I also saturated it just a bit more to see what would happen in the re-post. Yes, it is saved in srgb color profile. Interesting, it still came out a bit more "bland" than the saved shot on my computer although more colorful than the original post.

I like both views Hans; the ideal might be a horizontal with more room at the bottom. What a beautiful setting.

I'm going with the repost,,,,better in every respect. My one added suggestion would be to tone down the bright leaf right in front of the breast.

I prefer the vertical format too. Beautiful bird in a beautiful setting and I like the diagonal perch. :toast:

Hans, I too like the vertical version best. More room for the tail made a big difference for me but even without that issue I like the feel of the vertical best. Quite a lovely image.

Terrific Hans! I much prefer the vertical, with more space for the tail. Love the detail!

An attractive bird in a very n ice setting. Excellent sharpness. It works in both compositions but I do like the extra room at the bottom.

Color problems sound like a color profile/management issue.

- do you shoot in raw of jpg?
- is the camera set to sRGB or Adobe RGB or something else?
- if raw, how do you do your conversion (is there an assumed color space in raw conversion)?
- if you start out in Adobe RGB space, where and how do you convert the image to sRGB before saving as a jpg?
- are you embedding a color profile in the jpg image that you upload?
- does the loss of saturation show in all image viewers or only in your web browser?
- which browser are you using to view the uploaded image?
- if you are on a Mac what is your gamma set to: 1.8 or 2.2?
- if on a Mac and using Firefox do you have color management turned on?

excellent, Hans, and I definitely prefer the repost. The extra room for the tail was necessary, but the vertical comp is an improvement also. :toast:
