I photographed these American Avocets mating in a local pond. After they finished, they walked away, arm in arm, er, wing in wing.

Welcome to NPN Randall. This behavior is always fun to watch but it happens very fast and a lot of things have to come together. I love the look of the males wing over the back of the female but do wish for a better look at the eyes (hard to do here I know). My main issue with the image is that the colors seem too saturated, esp the reds, there's very little detail in some of the blacks and some of the whites are too bright IMO. Early morning or evening light would have helped a lot I think.

Welcome! Terrific pose with the "arms" around each other. Image is quite contrasty, but very nice otherwise.

Great interaction and low angle. I agree it does seem a little saturated.

Randall,
Thanks for posting your first pic. If your like me you will learn a lot very quickly here. You signed up about the same time I did. Don't be shy about posting. I love the avocet "KISS" after the main action is over, much more interesting than the actual mating IMHO. I will reitterate what's already been stated. The saturation looks a little over done, (reds and yellows) the lighting looks a touch on the harsh side which leads to the hot whites and the detail being lost in the blacks. You captured a great arm in arm courtship here with a nice low angle and you take what you get with lighting sometimes. With great equipment you'll be getting great images that I hope you will continue to share with us. Welcome aboard Randall!!!!
