New Zealand

I've got a stack of shots of albatrosses from the south island. Here's one of the better ones.

Canon 5DMkII, 16-35mm 2.8L at 16mm, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/800, polarizer.

Cool close up! I'm guessing these guys are not too skittish. The bird looking in on the right adds a lot to the comp.

Certainly a different angle, Kah. Nothing like bird photography with a wide angle! I like it. :toast:

Very interesting, bird photography with a wide angle and polarizer, I like the low angle and detail, very cool.

That is pretty powerful. A very surreal view.

Great view of the tube nose. I like the low angle, the water droplets on the wing and the drop on the tip of the beak. You were able to get amazingly close to the birds.

Kah,

New to the forum here and NPN, so just perusing the critique gallery. I stumbled upon "Freedom" and was impressed, so had to check out your gallery. Upon seeing this image, I just giggled with pleasure. Wide angles with subject in the foreground are always delightful to me, but I've never seen it done with a bird. In this composition, it makes them seem kind of goofy, and I love it, expecially the 2nd albatross at right. We don't have albatross on the coast off of Virginia, so these birds that may be common to you are exciting to me. It's crisp, so wet, and amusing. Great shot. I'll be watching for more great work from you.

way to hide the frozen fish-chunk...
good shot of the royal albatross, its so tough to take a clean comp from a little boat. you must have been leaning far into the water.
it did the albatros tour once and a tiger shark came and took all the albatros food...! bad for the birds but a neat experience... my kids loved it!

I love the low and wide perspective here! How did you get the camera so close to the water? Did you just lean out from the boat? Or did you go swimming? :)

I just leant out very low to the water Chris.
