Lines

Had the chance to photograph Snowy and Great Egrets the other morning right next to my car which made it oh so easy. I love all of the lines (curves) created in this image - though I'm not so crazy about the dark reflection in the URC. Oh, and the fish didn't get away.

Nikon D300s 300 f4 + 1.7X TC from car
f/8
1/2000s
ISO 250

Sharpened, minor crop

Luke, Nice mid-air capture. I agree w/ you regarding the URC and also wish the bird were angled a bit more towards you-but the sharp details, exposure and fish really make this image shine.

Nice, Luke. I like the lines too, and the mid-air fish adds some mystery to the image that gives it some staying power. I don't mind the dark area, but it would be easy enough to remove. :toast:

I'm assuming the egret has just dropped the fish, but the image makes it look like the fish is jumping into the waiting egret's open bill. Neat!

Nice action Luke. How would a tighter crop in a vertical format go?

cheers

Luke,
I like the curved lines too. The dark in the URC doesn't bother me. Well composed and neat image.

Looks like he's playing catch with himself Luke! I see them do this often on purpose. They will catch small fish i the bill, then flip them into their mouth. not sure he was doing that at this time, but have seen it quite a bit over the last 2 years photographing them.

I like this as posted. The suggestion for experimenting with vertical has some merit, however! Look at the curves/angles and how the fish is emphasized with a 4x5 ratio vertical...

Very nice exposure Luke. Excellent detail around the beak. The mid air fish puts the icing on the cake for me. :toast:

Very nice Fish In Flight image - it looks like the fish is jumping right into the Egret's mouth. I don't mind the URC at all. Nice work Luke!
