Hello All,
it was a busy moment at work but at last I managed to escape from the city for a couple of days to try my new tripod and gimbal head.
This shot was taken in Tuscany last Monday.
This bird in italian is called Sgarza Ciuffetto (I didn't find the english name) and his status is vulnerable. This species is present mainly in summer in the Mediterranean region.

40D 300 2,8 + 2TC
f 8,0 1/2500
ISO 400
WH-200 + RRS Versa

Thanks for viewing.
C&C are very welcome.

I like the comp and light..the bird looks a bit on the soft side, maybe a bit more sharpening would help?

Very elegant, Monica. There seems to be a fair amount of noise in the body of the bird, perhaps from sharpening. I really like the pose. :toast:

Hi Monica,
Cool looking bird and good job of catching him on a clean perch. This must be either a large crop or the bird was under exposed as there is very little detail in the feathers and lots of noise. It much more obvious in the large image. I would expect a cleaner image with the equipment you are using and shot at ISO-400. Sometime it helps to explain under what conditions you were shooting in to help with a more detailed critique.
Thanks for posting,
Ronnie G.

Thanks to all for the comments. I think it's time for a longer lens.
I cropped 50% of original raw and applied usual sharpening. :wavey:

Very attractive bird, Monica. I can see the noise previously mentioned and there is some lack of feather detail. However, the eye looks nice and sharp. The noise doesn't bother me....and maybe the feathers visible for this bird are just very fine. I went searching for the English name. Looks like it is called a "Squacco Heron" ....funny name....Apparently there are many names for this bird:
