This is part of the view from the Rattlesnake Point overlook off Skyline Drive in Shenandoah NP, Virginia. There are several overlooks, and a couple of them gave me a good chance to try some large panos in the late afternoon. This is a 27 shot pano with lots of overlap that came in at about 100 megapixels. It doesn't translate too well here, but I love shots with layered hills and got a little of that with some haze here.

Thanks for looking!

Hi David! Beautiful pano! I'm glad you added the larger version so we can really appreciate the extent of the details you captured. The line of clouds is quite dramatic. The exposure really shows the layered look of the hills. Very well done.

David,

A grand view for sure and a great pano. 27? 9x3? I'd ask why? But then detail and enlargement potential answer that question right away.

Personally, I'm wishing this was a bit brighter. I can't tell if the line of trees and mountains are under shadow of cloud cover, or it's underexposed in the landscape. The sky looks good, just the landscape looks too dark. but that's just me.

Hey Lon - Thanks for the comments.

As far as the darkness, the sun was low enough, with storm clouds off to the right and behind me, that I actually lightened the landscape quite a bit. There was a big dynamic range and I probably also underexposed the ground a bit to make sure not to blow out the clouds on the right. And ideally I'll double process and re-merge. I do think it looks pretty dark on screen at small size. But as I blow it up and can see the detail it starts to look better. I didn't want to go overboard. Thanks again!

Oh yea, it looks awesome in the large version. The small version doesn't quite give it the justice it deserves. I too love the receding hills and the layers of mountains that are emphasized by the pano composition. I'll bet a 6 foot long print would be gorgeous!

Wow, this image really sings in the larger version. I love those layers and the pano treatment!

Really nice layers and details. How big is 100 magapixels on a side?

Chirs - It's 16417 x 5736 (that's 94 megapixels actually), or about 54" x 19" at 300ppi
