On a clear day, from this spot in Wayne County, PA I'm told you can see all the way into New York to the east. I shot this on a very misty morning from the road near a friend's house, intentionally trying to make the FG OOF, while capturing the mist amidst the rolling hills and distant mountains catching the different colors along the way. Pano'd, D-90, larger posted as well. Thanks for looking!

Bill,

Gotta be honest and say that this one isn't working to well for me. I do think the oof foreground works better in the larger version, but in general it works more as a distraction than it does forcing the eye to focus on the misty(hazy?) valleys and treelines beyond. Secondly, there is little tonal separation between the sky and fog in the background and ultimately just doesn't hold my attention for long.

No doubt a beautiful view standing there, just a tough one to come across photographically.

Lon, I always appreciate your feeback. To me, this is a favorite shot. So be it. A similar one won an award in the Poconos. Which really means nothing.

Let me rephrase as I had a BAD night last eve--My style is often soft compared to the totally crisp, super-sharp majority I see here. That's ok sometimes, and I think this is one of those times it is, but that's just IMO.

I do like the layers the Nikon is able to capture here--that my Sony may not have. Is it perfecto?? Nah. But I also like the FG inclusion as I intended. This will register about 50 views... but I'm still happy with it and know the awesome critiques are meant to help me progress. Love NPNing! :toast:

I have to agree with Lon that the out of focus foreground is a real distraction for me. A beautiful scene though.

Very nice layers and soft colors. To be honest, I would prefer the foreground to be gone - it doesn't add a lot to the image and feels rather distracting.

Beautiful layers. I like the way the scene fades into the mist in the distance.
