Autumn Fern

Shot with Zeiss 100mm. Frond tips culminated in a rather narrow range. Played with the f-stop trying different dof's to isolate them, and to blur the rest. Could have opted for all sharp then used photoshop to manually blur ...but, I am not that good an artist. So did not try.

My wife stands by this fern shot as way better than the last post of Japanese Fern... I still like that one...it's got staying power, I say...this has pop...but, how long will that last? Fun photo and garden talk in the Smith House.

I am not sure comparing this and previous is fair, Ken - they are two different kind of shots and each one stands on its own.

I love the selective focus on the fern tips here and there is a certain glow to the frame which makes it dreamy. One minor thing (for me) is the presence of the brownish fern in the background near the left edge which draws my attention a little bit. Not sure what you could have done about it, if at all.

Hi Ramamohan, ha...all is fair in love, politics, war..and photo discussions in the Smith House. My wife and I tease each other about our divergent tastes in photo-likes, garden design and such. Kinda an ongoing joke. She can name all the plants by Latin and common...so she has this air of authority. I am constantly trying to gain respect. Neither of us is predictable. ; )

I still hate you for having the Zeiss 100........but I love how you have captured the selective focus across the plane of ferns. The fronds all seem to be pointing to???? Something missing maybe...a venture into photoart with ...... I dunno .... lots of possibilities...

Ken: Wonderful plane of focus management and an intriguing comp and subject. I don't think this and the last image are comparable. I like them both. >=))>

I like this very much Ken, love the golden color, and the soft fade into the BG, I'm also seeing a very nice vertical on the right side, anyway, beautiful work.

Ken, delightful play of focus. Also I really like the motion brought by the sweeping fern tips.

Ken, excellent comp and image. The sense of motion is neat; its as if the ferns are swimming, or maybe that's my head.

I like this one Ken. The ferns almost seem to be dancing. The darkness on the left side bothers me a tad, but I cannot see how to crop it off effectively. I do like your plane of focus management.

Both are excellent and very different. I vote for this one. It has movement and depth, like it is dancing in the wind. I guess I like the artistic aspect. :wavey:
