Nice contrast between the sharp black bill and the soft white plums of feathers. Well done Cheryl.

What a gorgeous study in white. I'd be tempted to selectively sharpen the eye a little.

Amazing detail! I am trying to shoot these birds but find the lighting must be perfecvt to get any decent shots. This is a perfect example of an Egret!

Great looking bird and a lovely composition here. I feel a bit more DOF would have helped keeping the eye sharp.

Dang Cheryl. That's a superb image. I don't know if this is full frame or if you cropped to this composition but I really like this. Only tiny nit is that the eye appears just a tiny bit soft. The rest is perfect Cheryl.

Cheryl,
I love the laciness of the plumes and the graceful curves in your image.
The eye on the egret is soft though and that is the first thing I noticed while the bill and the plumes crossing it seem nice & sharp. The 7D seems to handle higher ISO's well, Ron D's images using higher ISO's look very good straight out of the camera, so I probably would have increased the ISO to gain more shutter speed and most likely would have used between f8 and f10 for an aperture to get more depth of field. The other issue I see is that there are some whites that are blown in the neck and back of the egret and very little feather detail shows in that area. I may have dialed in some negative exposure comp in the field to help tone them down. I am not sure you would be able to correct the whites in post processing.
Still I like the intimate concept you have presented with this image.
