Kansas may not have any real iconic landscapes, but nothing beats a Kansas sunset after a round of severe thunderstorms. Here's one from near Hill City (N Central) last weekend, a tornado-warned storm that had 70 mph winds and golfball size hail (put a few more dents in my car).

Wicked and epic! The light and color contrasts are magnificent. Mom sure looks angry.

Gorgeous, Stan. You nailed the moodiness of this massive storm.

Wow! What a sky. Must have been something watching this. Very interesting to look at. The light on the field is pretty special too. Good the dents are on the car and not you. Cool shot Stan.

Wonderful sky, but the play of light on the field is what takes this over the top. Beautiful! :toast:

Awesome storm Stan :jump: I especially like the very low hanging cloud. Too me it looks as if it needs a small CW rotation. Further I would crop a sliver off the left to lose that telephone pole closest to the edge.

Wow! Fascinating, frightening and awe-inspiring all at once. It's mesmerizing! Just the same, I'd probably be running for cover, much as I would be wishing to stay and photograph it. Yikes... scary stuff.

Sheer Stan-demonium going on (that's meant in a very nice way)!! Love the sky and the golden FG, just gorgeous. Small nit, possibly a CW rotation and the one dark spot in the very LLC. Beautiful job Stan. :toast:

Wow Stan, that's an incredible sunset. The storm clouds and colours in the sky look fantastic.

nice shot, great detail, the clouds really make for a dramatic image, and you got the perfect lighting well done

sweet Stan, reminds me of home :). Great light and clouds. I agree with the rotation suggestion. Not sure about the telephone poles, because in one way they do lead into the frame and balance the buildings on the right.

Thanks, folks!
I thought about a crop of the lhs, but for whatever reason it doesnt feel complete for me w/o that side--probably for the reasons Rob mentions. I do think it needs a slight rotation though (i was thinking more about not getting hit by lightning at the time rather than leveling the shot  )

Awesome. If a sky like this ever appeared over southern CA, there'd be wide scale panic.

spectacular caoture, Stan! very dramatic light and clouds. Looking at this, I felt like getting up closer to the storm, but dents in your car from hail??? That sounds awful. Glad you and the camera made it back in one piece! Take care out there
