Juvenile Dipper

by Ian Mason

Gallery: AvianPosted June 28, 2010139 views21 comments
1Dlln, 600 mm f4 is, 1/320s, f6.3, iso 200. Morning sun. Slight crop.

I've recently had my first opportunity to watch dippers and what great fun it has been. The young appear much more frequently than the adults and are attractive in their own right. The background is still water, reflecting distant trees.

A well executed image, Ian. The larger image shows a lot of feather detail.

Thanks for your concern Rich

Are you 100%

Not quite, but a heck of a lot better than I was a few months ago - I'm not working but I can certainly crack on with life now! Made me review my priorities in a big way (after a stroke, to put some context for others)

I still await the day I get the chance to see (photograph) one of these. The hint of habitat is a real nice touch as is the perfect DOF on the bird which is a little surprising at f/6.3

A lovely image Ian. Pose, perch and background are all nice but what really catches my eye is the way the raised tail allows such nice detail in the plumage below it and also the whites ringing the wing feathers. I still don't have a dipper image, keeper or otherwise...

Very clean image. Like the way the background colors match the color of the bird.

One of the nicest images of these cool birds that I've seen
The perch and the background add to the image, and the large version really shows of this awsome little bird.

Very nice - I've not seen a juvie European Dipper before and I like how this softens the white on the throat. A fine clean composition and a nice low viewpoint.

Glad to see you posting again Ian. This is a nice sharp and detailed image of a young dipper a species I missed out on photographing this year as I lost the use of my camera for a couple of months.Graham

Just lovely Ian, I like every thing about it. I would love to get an image of this species one day, think you could send one or two from Scotland to Utah?
