Down the Hatch

From the Tarcoles River on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. We were in a boat on the Tarcoles when we spotted this croc. It had the fish hanging out the side of its' jaws. Knew that it would eventually flip it to swallow. Kept shooting and hoping for the right timing. This was the result.

50D, 500mm f/4, ISO 400
1/1000 @ f/7.1
+1/3
Handheld
Cropped to about 80% of full frame.

Larger version included.

Your technique worked well to time this. Love the water droplets and the fish going down the hatch. :toast:

Looks like you got that right moment you were hoping for. Great shot with lots of action - much nicer than a static gator/croc shot

HI Keith,

Well, looks to me like the timing was right on this one! To me the single thing that takes this image to a higher level is the trail of water droplets arcing between the upper and lower jaw (but other aspects of the image are strong as well). Well done...

Cheers...thanks for sharing this...

The water droplets are special. I like the diagonal composition and rich color in the water.
