National Elk Refuge

This image of the National Elk Refuge was captured last September just outside Jackson, WY. The sky and distant hills are a bit washed out because of the time day, but what appealed to me was the contrast in texture between the reeds and the nearby hills, separated by the line of trees. Comments and critiques appreciated.
D200, 80-200 f/2.8 @ 175 mm, 1/320 sec @ f/8, CPL, tripod, about a 70% crop from the original image.

nice shot, the duck flapping its wings really adds a lot to this shot, good detail and depth of field, nice sharpness and colours make for a nice warm feeling composition.

Nice composition of the different layers; the colours combination works very well.

Love the layers and the contrasts in this. I also like the color palette. It reminds me of some of the Cezanne prints I've seen and liked. For my tastes this is beautiful work.

Welcome to NPN Matthew. I really like this take on the National Elk Refuge. The color palette, layers and play of light & shadow on the distant hills combine to make a very nice image.

Love the layers and colors Matthew. Great image! Would love to see it under different lighting conditions, probably create a whole new effect as well. :toast:

I love everything about this, Matthew - color, detail, light, and the texture of those beautiful rounded, rolling hills. Nicely done.

Very nice, Matthew. The texture between the grasses and the hills really looks nice to me too. I like this. Nice colors. Good work.

Hi Matthew
What I love about this image is that it seems to have a light on its own. Like a backlit frame.
Very nice

Two for two Matthew! This is wonderful, the light is lovely. Not sure where you think anything is washed out here? Great color in the marsh and the dappled light on the hills is great too. For me though, the duck flapping it's wings really makes the image... Well done!

I love the layer effect and the light. For me, I would want a little less foreground water.
