Just playing with shallow dof and different points of focus. Having fun with the new lens and Hoodman loupe.
Viveza and Nik Darken/lighten applied.
Canon 50D
Canon 100mm 2.8L
1/15sec, f2.8

I notice it's a bit grainy - I forgot to set my ISO back down.. Was shot at 400 (usually shoot at 100 for studio shots)

Kathy: I find getting the anthers right in this type of comp is pretty tough. I generally like them all sharp or just one. I think you did well here. I do think I would burn down or paint a little hint of color on the hot areas on the stamens but I like how you handled the yellow. Nicely done.>=))>

One of the things I really enjoy about macro work is how a slight shift in focus point can create an entirely different look. Experimenting, as you are doing here, as opposed to a standardized practiced approach can really pay off, as it is doing for you....something I need to remember.

Usually i like to see all the anthers sharp in a shot like this, Kathy, but I do think this works, I guess because you have isolated the two main ones so well. Lovely colouring too.

Fine composition and great light Kathy. I like the SOA treatment and am content to see only the anthers on the tallest filaments in sharp focus. No suggestions on my part. Beautiful image.

Glad to see you using the macro lens. This image works well for me. Dramatic in style and color and a pleasure to view. :toast:

Looks like the two in focus anthers are holding up the petal! I like the conflict of the in focus LLC going oof and tehn back in focus for the anthers olding up the petal. The oof anthers look like they are ready to offer support, but content to stay just out of reach. And the other dude - totally out of the picture! :toast:

Beautifully artistic Katrhy. The noise is very slight and I wouldn't have noticed it, but you made me look for it.
Nice work.

Beautiful image as usually Kathy. The hot areas on the two stamens actually add some interest to me, I like it. Also I like the sharp POF and softness of the rest of the image. Well done.
