Past Its Prime?

Can a leaf that is past its prime, still be a point of interest? This one lilac leaf is about ready to fall off, but I wanted to capture it for its range of color and leaf texture. I'm very interested in drawing, especially with pen and ink, and thought this would make a great subject. Just something different. Camera is Nikon D70, handheld, very sunny and hot day. Comments always appreciated.

Lovely texture on the brown leaf and a great out of focus background. I think a slightly smaller aperture so that all of the brown leaf was sharp would help.

This is great, Barbara  . Love the contrast provided by the leaf past its prime. I like this photo as is and also when cropped to remove the leaf going to the top right corner.

Well Seen

Barbara: Well seen, conceived and executed. A tiny bit more DOF would suit me a little better but this is a superb comp and an excellent final result. Nicely done. >=))> :toast:

What a fine image Barbara. Superb composition and great light. I can certainly see why you might want to draw this.

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. My drawing teacher tells us to look all around nature to find its beauty, something that I always took for granted. I find that I really look at the details of a leaf or flower a lot more than I used to and for taking this image to the drawing stage is what will be important. I'm glad I got this shot when I did as it started to storm and the leaf blew away into the woods. Timing is everything! Next step ... drawing this leaf! And then back to more nature studying. Thanks again for viewing this image.

I love the image, but do wish the entire "past its prime" leaf was in focus. Was the "Can it still be a point of interest" a social commentary?
