Here's another dragonfly photo, I hope I'm not getting too carried away but I'm really starting to enjoy photographing them. This one here didn't seem to be bothered by me so after a series of shots I changed my POV and pushed my luck at how close I could get. I probably could have gotten closer but I stopped here. I shot this horizontal then cropped the sides to make a vertical. I will post the original photo without crop below. I like the comp of the horizontal but I like the added details with the vertical.

Canon 7D, Manual Exposure with tripod, 1/25sec, F/5.6, ISO 640, Canon 100mm macro.

Large version add.
Thanks for looking and all C&C welcomed.

John:
You have definitely caught odonata fever. Superb close up here. The vertical is more interesting to look at than the horizontal. Very good DOF for 5.6. The only thing I would suggest is toning down the highlight on the perch.

BTW there is no cure for odonata fever except to shot some more

I really like the detail in the eyes but the rest of the image is a little flat with a bright spot on the front. Maybe toning that area down would enhance this image.

Great photo with excellent detail in the eye. I can relate. I spent one entire summer photographing these. They are frequently very tolerant of you being close up. They seem actually curious. Agree about the perch. You might even consider cropping just above the perch in a square (ish) format. Maybe at that last joint on the front legs.
