Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)

Place: Gilbert Water Ranch, AZ, USA
Date: December 27, 2009
Equipment: Nikon D200, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC20E (2x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered, ISO 400, 1/160th @ f/11
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac G4, modest crop

This abundant species in the east is still something of a novelty in AZ, but numbers have been growing over the 16 years I've been here. They are now regular at the Water Ranch. I was after the quiet mood of this pair in early morning.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated. Larger image provided for evaluation of detail.

Interesting photo Rich. Some would say it's too centered, but I think in this case it works. Love the reflection. The low angle, the relatively low contrast lighting and calmness of the water all come together to pull off the quiet mood you were looking for. Well done. :toast:

Very nice tranquil look to this. I like the juxtaposition of the ducks and the soft golden water.

Quite a beautiful shot, Richard. The water color, the lack of land, the reflections and the peaceful poses of the geese combine very well. :toast:

Richard

The warm tones of the birds, the golden hues of the water and the serene poses of the geese make this image beautiful & peaceful to my eyes. I love the comp you used and the elegant simplicity this image conveys. Your techs look great as usual. I'd be very happy to have this image in my files.

Leave it to you Rich to turn the ordinary into something much better. Serenity personified.

Classic serene image of Canadas. Beautiful light, rather pastel with just enough saturation in the colors. Very appealing and technically excellent. :toast:

The early light and peaceful mood combine with this composition to make it a most aesthetically pleasing image Richard. Simplicity rules here.
Well done.
