Hike at your own risk [+add-ons]

well, that's what those big, dark, stormy clouds were telling to everyone in the valley - i.e. yours truly and, perhaps, a few marmots  Rather amazingly it didn't rain, instead the sky broke a few minutes later, flooding the valley with the warm light of the setting sun.

This is the Valnontey river, with the walls and glacier of the Gran Paradiso massif in the background. Taken about a week ago.

Your C&C are as always highly appreciated, thanks in advance for your time.

Techs: Eos 50D, Tokina ATX-Pro 12-24 f4, GND 4x, tripod. Single frame, single exposure

Love the color of that water, the dramatic clouds above, and the sharp textures in-between.
Great composition and lovely processing.
Well done my friend!

This is great Paolo - so moody and dynamic. I like the way the lines converge in the distance too. Super image.

Yes this does look rather ominous. The lovely textured water helps convey drama. I'm looking forward to the shots you no doubt took a few minutes later too.

Thanks all for your comments pales, I appreciate that. Kah Kit, the sunset wasn't anything striking - which is quite surprising given the harsh conditions of just a few minutes before. It was rather gentle, soft and somewhat dreamy. I will certainly post a picture of it in the next days.

Very moody indeed. The color of the water makes it look VERY cold. I really like the rich dark tone in the tree line. It adds to the ominous feel.

Very nice low to the water perspective and the water colors are very nice. The V shape of the distant canyon frames the mountain and ominous cloud nicely.

The dark contrast really makes this image pop off the screen. Beautiful mix of color and nice treatment on the water. Great depth with the creek leading into the background. Image has a lot going for it. Very nice Paolo.

Thanks again everyone, I'm pleased to hear that you find it interesting. I have just finished processing a slightly different composition of this very same scene and thought I would post it for comparison. This is stitched from five vertical takes, and it was taken about five minutes later, when the sky was starting to break.

I know most people around here like "dark/moody". My preference is actually for the alternate with the wider view and a little more light. It's still PLENTY dark for my taste. I like the slightly softer water their too, but like I said, I'm probably out voted on these things.
