Vanishing Lake

Last fall we had the opportunity to try out a couple of mountain hikes. We were a little apprehensive as this was a first for both my wife and I. I Took this shot at Tryst Lake in Kananaskis country and while we heard the water level was lower this year we had nothing to compare the comment with. It was quite a workout to get to the summit and for all the hard work even though the lake was down, it was worth the effort imho and thought I should share this one. You just never know what to expect which is half the fun :)

Thanks for taking the time to stop by for a look.

As always your thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated.

I'm not sure what happened but when this image was posted all of the colour seemed to be muted. I hope they can be removed and reposted.

What a gorgeous scene. Excellent details and great composition. The limited amount of water shows a very nice reflection.

"all of the colour seemed to be muted" - The colors look good to me, but I did notice that you were using ProPhoto RGB for your color space, this could be a problem on non-color managed browsers.

Nicely done. TFS

Looks like a great first spot for you! The landscape does look a bit parched, and the proximity of the peak to the top of the frame and the clipped tree feel a little claustrophobic. The larches, however, add some wonderful color.

This really was a beautiful scene although maybe my monitor isnt set to view the "ProPhoto RGB" setting. (which i'm not sure how i did that anyway) Is there a way i can change that now that the image is posted? This image, to me, doesn't look all that good colour wise. Thanks Joel, I sure hope you are seeing this image where the larch trees are a fairly bright yellow. My monitor shows the whole scene as a dull green. Thanks all :)

Very nice image. This would be termed a "cirque" wouldn't it. I've always like that word. I like how even the shadows are full of light and color. Agree with Floris that a bit more room at the top would be nice.

Hello Tony yes indeed this would be referred to as a "cirque" :) Can you ( or somebody) tell me if this image i'm posting with this comment looks identical in colour to the original posting? This is the correct colour of the image. (On my monitor at least) Thanks for all of your help.

Mark color in the second image is much better, a broad range of vivid tones. Nice shot, but be careful, mountain hikes can be habit forming.

Thanks very much Bruce, I finally figured out where the problem was. You are right there, I am looking forward to getting a few more mountain hikes in before the snow files. :)
