Misty Night - Spray Park

While I was set up at this spot, a huge mass of fog rolled in and I didn't think I was going to get much. It cleared just as the aplenglow started. I planned to wait around for it to get more intense, but a bear wandered in to the meadow I was in, and began to drink from one of the other tarns. I decided it was probably better to leave with what I had than wait.

Left it a little on the dark side since that captured the mood of the fog better.

C&C welcome. Thanks in advance!

Very nice shot Mike. I really like the alpenglow light and the reflection on the tarn. The fog adds a nice moody feel. Sorry the bear scared you away from this beautiful area.

I really like the mood of this one, looks much better large - the shapes of the trees along the right really add a lot.

What a wonderful place, and you were blessed with some great conditions. This is really beautiful Mike, I think you did a great job in conveying the mood and the larger file looks gorgeous. Just one nit: there's some magenta fringing around the pine trees on the right, which I would remove if possible.

It's hard to go wrong with these kinds of conditions at Spray Park. Some flowers in the fg would have been nice, but the fog more than makes up for it. You did an admirable job of finding this small tarn, which fills the frame in a unique shape and reflects the mountain perfectly. Well executed Mike. Congrats :wavey:

Thanks for the comments all! I would have tried for a bear photo, but I only had my wide angle lens on me, and the tarn the bear was drinking from didn't really have a good angle to get Rainier in the shot. That's what I get for not bringing a long lens... my first bear sighting ;)

As much as I love the Eastern Sierra, and some of your images from that region, I think this is probably your best image that I have seen!!!!! How fortunate for you that you were there to see it, and get this shot. Congrats about the bear sighting too.

OK, i took a second look at this cause its worth some attention...
and I have to strongly advise: CROP, repeat...CROP the bottom for a semi-pano. Youve got to get rid of that boring rhc. The crop gives you a 50/50 comp, but that is perfectly ok because this is all about the reflection anyhow. The crop transforms this from just a real nice shot, to a killer, prize-winning shot (at least if i were the judge)

Such fleeting conditions are amazing to witness in real life, and you've done a terrific job capturing it. The fog does a great job simplifying both the tree line on the right, but also the reflection in the pond. I wouldn't mind just a hair more brightness in the foreground to make it pop a bit more, but I realize that this image is very faithful to the scene as presented.
