Wild Thing #11

Wild bergamot with a couple of friends. I think these are verigated fritillary butterflies.

Shot out in the beautiful Flint Hills back in June. I know there's a lot of "trash" in the frame (unruly grasses, barbed wire fence, etc.) but it would take a lot of work to clone everything out. I just don't have the energy today  I also tried a different crop where I cropped out pretty much most of the top above the butterfly's wingtips, but I liked the golden glow up there so decided to keep it. I'm sure you all will have opinions and suggestions so bring them on.

Canon Rebel XTI, handheld
35-80 mm lens
ISO 100, F7.1 @ 1/320

What a neat capture Angela, all the invironmental issues do not detract at all, in my opinion. Great work. :toast:

Angela:
Nice environmental shot. You have done pretty well in isolating the main subjects and the 'trash' are pretty well hidden. If you have the energy to clone, I would suggest removing the long blade extending to the mid of top border.

Beautiful scene Angela. Love the mood it projects. I would do a little cloning - maybe this winter when it's too cold to get out - I'd get the tall stem vertical and it's attachments and I'd clone out the faint black lines in the viewer's upper right corner. Given all the elements you had to deal with here, you did a great job of controlling them in the composition. I'd love to have this on my wall. Especially in January.

Nice shot Angela. You did a great job with what you had. I think the blooms and butterflies are strong enough to make the distractions "less distracting." Of course you could clean it up, or you you could spend that time out looking for more cool shots. I would chose the second option.

Nice environmental shot Angela. I wouldn't change a thing; it is what it is. Nice job getting both butterflies sharp, and you handled the light very well.

Angela, I know exactly what you mean when you say you don't have the energy today to work on the image. I think it's a keeper if you do some cloning and/or possibly carefully selecting the background and using a gaussian blur on it. I hope you save it to work on another day. I really do like the flowers and the butterflies...

Ciao ;^)

Hi Angela :wavey: I too hate cloning  Being a person who spends all day outdoors, I find The B.G. very interesting, If you are a perfectionist go for Pats advice! This is a lovely country scene, beautifully captured

Really beautiful , fresh image, Angela - it captures the mood of place and time so well. And a great capture of the butterflies. Personally i like the upper oof area - for a sense of depth and a contrast with the business of the image as a whole.

I would try to remove some of the minor distracting grass stems, but what a gorgeous shot, Angela!

Angela: Wonderful scene and really nice DOF/POF management to get the BFs in focus. The stem exiting the top caught my eye immediately as did the diagonal dark line in the URC. I don't think it would take much to make them go away and it would make an already fine image exceptional IMO. Nicely done. >=))>
