Lilium Stargazer

Just getting back into shooting after a long layoff.

Decided that I might find some attractive flowers at Costco, and I did ...

This was shot with a 60mm macro lens. How I lust for the 105  and I just can't justify it at the moment.

I wanted to capture the detail on the petals so I experimented with bracketing the f/stop.

This final version was f/36 @ 20 seconds; ISO 100. Natural light. A tripod and all that good stuff.

Processing included using curves on extended luminosity lights on both the red and blue channels as well as cropping to eliminate some of the background details

Nice to be posting again and I hope you enjoy the image as much as I do.

:wavey:

Mission accomplished with the details Carol. These deep blossoms can be hard to capture without resorting to the artistic blur that we often see, although they're very nice too, Well done all around.

Very nice detail on the petals. Difficult flower to capture, but I like your approach of f36 :toast: A 60 mm is a fine lens, just closer working distance, but I know how that goes. I have a 105 and would love to have a 200.

Beautiful work Carol. Great comp and absolutely no suggestions from me other than to post another in a couple of days. I'm really glad to see you posting again. I've missed your images and your comments. Welcome back.

Carol:
Great DOF for sure - everything tack sharp from front to back. :toast: What struck me with is flower is how clean the petals are - no pollen grains at all eventhough only one anther is left. Like to suggest darkening the bg along the left and RLC to cover over the stems/leafves. Excellent image.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for explaining what you did in processing. I had one of these very stargazers earlier this year but I could never get the colors like I wanted. Your image is excellent.
Now, I may go back and try again following what you did in Photoshop.

Hey, nice to see you again, Carol :wavey: Wow, what a gorgeous shot! Great DOF, color and comp. I love all the spikey things on the petals. This is so good, I can almost smell the aroma! Stargazers are one of my favorite fragrances.

Carol: Great to have you back aboard and with such a terrific post. I would make the lone blade of grass(?) in the ULC go away and then print it large. Really well done.>=))>
