Tsaina River Scenery #2

by Gary Minish

Gallery: Weekly ChallengePosted August 8, 201088 views6 comments
One of a series of photos I took while hiking downstream along the Tsaina River (this one about 38 miles North of Valdez, Alaska.) It was a little tricky and a bit dangerous trying to get this rafting like perspective. I had to hopscotch out into the stream on some large rocks like the ones in front of the camera.

Taken at 12:32 PM. ISO-160, f8.0, 1/800

Nice photo, I think you could crop a bit off of both sides to make the far mountains more visible. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely evokes Alaska! The centered comp is pretty blatant, but it works for me given the 'rafting perspective'. Minor nit: tree up top are hurting form either sharpening and/or compression. :wavey:

I like the composition on this. Like Stan said, it gives it a rafting perspective.

Well worth the effort to get into position. I like the perspective and I don't think the noon hour light hurts the scene.

Gary: Looks like you got a fortuitous cloud to tame the sun and you made the most of it. Wonderful scene and a solid capture. I actually would counsel a crop from the top down to just above the clouds. The empty blue doesn't add much and making it go away give the FG even more emphasis. Makes me want to go there. >=))>

Gary,

I really like the view of the mountain in the distance, your position in the water, the large boulders in the foreground and how this makes me feel that I am there with you when you created this image. I think the light is beautiful.
