Egretta tricolor

Taken in Florida. I like the crouching pose the heron took just before it struck a minnow.

D200, handheld, f6.3, 1/1600, ISO 250, 80-400mm VR at 330mm, natural light, 72% of original image.

As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments & critiques. Thank you for looking.

This is a really a fun shot for me Mia. I love the intensity of the heron's hunting pose, so serious for him/her but it gets a smile out of me. I like the layers of OOF waves in different stages of development in the background with calm water in between. But it's that seriously crouched pose that I like most. Very different and very appealing IMO.

Awesome pose and capture! For me, the waves in the BG really sets this photo up perfectly! :toast:

Up to your usual Florida image standards. A very nice image with high quality, nice action, and a clean natural setting.

Great image. I like the muted tones of the foreground and BG. The hiding of the lower legs gives the bird and look of defying gravity.

Wonderful composition, Mia. The intent pose of the bird well contrasted against the natural background is very attractive. Nice detail in the greys in particular too. :toast:

I love the drama here Mia-on many levels, the pose, the wave action, and the various sea water colors that comprise the BG. :toast:

Very unusual pose, Mia. I love it. The horizontal lines of the Egret work very well with the line of the breaking surf. :toast:

I like the unusual posture of the bird, the tension and intensity in that pose and the layers created by having the bird between the waves. The low angle and your usual impeccable techs, too. I envy you your ability to get the bird so sharp.

Superb Mia. The crouching pose makes this different and very appealing as a image. The sea is always an attractive background but the low angle showing the bird in the waves is an excellent perspective. Graham

Great low perspective Mia - looks like the bird is trying the same. Like the waves in the background - certainly not a habitat you'd see a heron in Australia

cheers

Terrific Mia! I agree with Ron and Richard's comments. Not a suggestion, but it would be fun to see this cropped down to the blue water line from the top.

Beautiful setting and great action. You can just feel the tension as the heron is ready to pounce.

I think I blew out my knee trying to imitate this pose.

Seriously, this is a great image. The POV is nice an low and you can't miss his intent stare. Sharpness and DOF are right on too.

Love the lines and birds pose! Great catchlight in it's eye. Nice low angle, (you always leave me wondering how you keep your equipment dry!)
Well done Mia! :toast:

Another shot up to your typical standards, Mia. The tension in the "ready to strike" posture comes through. This makes me want to take a trip to the coast for a beach crawl.
