Burrowing Owl

This is the same perch that the owl in Mia's post of 8/15 used and it may be the same bird though I can't be sure - there were a lot of them. These owls spend most of their time hunkered down in the shade but sometimes in early morning when it's cool we get lucky and catch some of them sunning themselves on a higher perch.

7D, 1/2000, f/7.1, ISO 500, 500 f/4, 1.4 tc, shot from pickup window on 8/13/10, cropped to 51% of original image, slight exposure adjustment in ACR, sharpened bird and perch, NR to background, cloned out a couple of twig tips coming into bottom of frame, no other processing or adjustments, natural light, not baited

Sweet! Love the how you caught the wings all fanned out. And those eyes are stunning. Nice details and a good clean background. Well done. :toast:

Awesome, Ron. Seems that these birds have been giving you some real opportunity. This photo with the wingspread is one of your best IMO. Nice to know that there are a "lot of them" anywhere these days. :toast:

Really top-notch Ron. Love the DOF and SS to spot the motion dead. BG is perfect for this image and the pose of the owl is one of my favorites. Love the eye and overall comp is right on IMO. Very well done as usual.

Great pose Ron. I like the warm earthy tones here as well. I was hoping to see this species on a recent trip to southern Saskatchewan but alas no luck.

Beautiful shot Ron. The wingstretch is great, and I like the bit of veg sticking up from the bottom (perch included). Really nice complimentary background as well.
