Another puffin shot from Machias Island off New Brunswick. These little guys have such an excess of personality that we could spend hours and hours enjoying their antics. This one was watching several others taking off for the fishing grounds and seemed to be deciding between another few minutes of hanging out in the sun or getting back to work. I was hoping for a nice takeoff but he decided to spend more time relaxing. Comments and suggestions are always very much appreciated.

Canon EOS 40D
Canon 100-400L IS @ 320
F13 @ 1/1,250 sec, ISO 500
No Crop, Slight levels enhancement and sharpening

Nice and sharp Joe and even though more of a head turn might be desireable I do like the almost wistful look the puffin seems to have as it looks off into the distance. I think your composition works well - nice job getting it just right full frame.

I like it Joe, it does look like he's pondering what to do next. I think the wide depth of field works well here too, helping to give it a sense of place. :toast:

This is a beauty Joseph, really like the oof background that hints of the habitat. Super pose! I think you could sharpen the Puffin a little more, it's good as is, but I think the texture of the feathers could be emphasized a bit more without penalty. I vow to see this part of Canada and those great seabirds, lucky you.

Beautiful shot Joe, I really like the pose, with the upward gaze.

Joseph,

Though some people might like a bit more of a head turn I think this works very well, it adds a feeling that the bird is watching something in the sky overhead. Love the setting, your dof worked well, like the light, natural looking colors and the comp.
