Every year we get these borers on this one tree. This is the male. The female is equally as pretty, but is iridescent blue instead of green.

Exotic subject, Lucy. Your description really makes me want to see both the iridescent blue and the iridescent green in one frame! The composition you chose is pleasing. My only wish would be for a little less busy background. You might be able to selectively tone down the background brightness in post processing, to make the eye focus more on the iridescence of the greens of your subject.

The subject is done well, but I agree that the back ground is to busy and takes my eye away from the main subject.

This is the loving couple...for Lon
How Do Like Me Now?

Sorry for the bad BG. I tried increasing the size, but the posting won't let me make it able to be enlarged.

Thanks for sharing the couple. I find the gender difference in color to be fascinating...and they are both beautiful, like jewelry!

Now that is a beautiful bug. Creepy, but beautiful. I would not like to meet one in person or in a nightmare. The antennae are wild!

The bg is a bit difficult. But great subjects aren't always in the perfect place... Depends on your personal philosophy about altering images, but selecting just the bg and giving it some gaussian blur might be a solution. Worth it to make the bug the star of the show.

They are indeed beautiful...but Catherine..they are over 11/2 inches long without the antennae, so, NOW, I suspect you really don't want to meet them!
