Early Morning Heron

Haven't been out birding much because of a dragonfly project, but with that completed my attention has turned back to birds. Found this Great Blue Heron this morn at a local lake in great light, and he was very approachable. Got alot of different looks. I added a bit of canvas on the left to give it more room.

Nice capture, Doug.
Nice detail on a great background. I think the addition of the canvas helped balance the comp.

Doug...The lighting reminds me of a Rembrandt painting, if Rembrandt ever painted birds, that is.

The heron has a nice contrast of colors; warm front lighting and cool back lighting. Adding the extra canvas was a good choice to keep the heron balanced. This is a very fine portrait.

Great portrait with beautiful light, the I love how it seems to be glowing. That extra canvas really balances the image
