Nuances

I am quite intimidated to shoot at a place that has been mastered by another. This is from the Great Sand Dunes National Monument, which Stan Rose has completely dialed in. But, I guess it's alright because we all see the same things differently. I have even more respect now for Stan in my trying to find comps in the conditions this place presents. The wind was ripping, which is why, of course, the Sand Dunes even exist.
The heavily diffused light brought out every nuance of the dunes.

Comments and critiques always welcome, and thanks for looking,

Morris

This is wonderful Morris, it takes a bit to appreciate all the subtle nuance of colours and light the picture provides, but this is definitely great because it keeps me looking.

Other than the small wedge in the LRC, this is an incredible image. Wonderful textures and the light is super sweet. This is very different than Stan's work and certainly stands on it's own. Well done.

Morris,

So often we see images of dunes that are just about light, shadows, ripples and "perfect" sand. I must say that you've brought out some things with this dune image that we don't often see. I love the subtle variations in layered colors, the texture and details of the little plants and imperfections of the dunes. This is simply a fabulous interpretation and presentation of these sand dunes. Congrats on a wonderful capture.

Proving that everyone has their own take, this is masterful Morris. I don't remember seeing these exact color from here, they are phenomenal.

I've never seen photos of this place that look like this. Good work.

Lovely scene. If'n your open to it, you should try a B&W conversion to see other nuances. Any other photos of those ripples in the LRC?

The subtle colors and light you've captured here are just great. It's certainly appropriately titled.

It is real different than my stuff--which is a good thing (cause if you did my comps that would probably make mine suffer in comparison  ). I like the play of shaodw/highlites, and subtle colors. It seems a bit disorganized to me, whereas i always look for some sort of order--but its a cool shot, Morris! Guess where im headed right now...

Gorgeous image Morris - I really like this a lot. Actually this is probably one of my faves from you. Very strong - I am surprised it hasn't received more comments. Terrific work! :wavey:

there are fabulous subtle tones to this morris which bring out the forms nicely. the comp doesn't quite do it 100% for me - but therein, i believe, lies the challenge of dune photography.
